About North Attleboro

A Local's Perspective

“North Attleboro is a large town with a small town feel. It’s a town where most people know each other and new residents become part of the community quickly. The public school system is excellent and we also have great private schools like Bishop Feehan High School in town. North is a town of great pride. A good example of this is if you go to a North football game there are usually two thousand or more people attending. The crime rate is also low for such a large town. There are still large areas of conservation and farm land within the town limits. The town also has the convenience of the major highways of I95 and 495. We also have the Commuter (Providence to Boston) Rail available in the next town over in Attleboro. I’m planning to be here the rest of my life.”

Houdini – A Magical Transformation

I am a Harry Houdini fan and I found out that Houdini escaped from a North Attleboro jail cell (#3) in the 1920s. I put this fun fact on the web site when we launched our web site www.modvic.com. When I was on eBay the following week looking around for Houdini collectables – you won’t believe what I found. You guessed it – Houdini’s North Attleboro jail cell #3. The police station had been sold a few years back and the new owner wanted to sell the jail cell door, key and seat (unfortunately no “HH” initials). I couldn’t pass it up. I purchased the items and will display when we have an open house for the Freeman home – another great connection for me to North Attleboro. If anyone has any information on the Houdini escape from the North Attleboro Jail Cell (i.e. date, articles, pictures) – please let me know. Thanks!
