ModVic - Modern Victorian Home Restoration

390 Mount Hope St., N Attleboro, MA
The Gold Standard of Home Restoration

Once in a lifetime opportunity to own the fully restored and modernized Victorian 4-5 Bedroom, 3 and a half Bathroom Benjamin Stanley Freeman House, built circa 1830 and transformed into a dramatic Victorian Italianate in 1877.

Built by B. S. Freeman, a well-known jewelry manufacturer who invented the manufacturing process of rolled gold curb chain. The 4,500 square-foot Italianate home sits majestically on an elevated wooded 1 acre lot (37,266 sq ft) in a beautiful renovated residential neighborhood in the Attleborough Falls Historic District on Mount Hope Street in North Attleboro. Scenic Falls Pond and waterfall sits right behind the home and can be enjoyed for swimming, boating and recreational fun.

The 3 floor high, modern Gothic Victorian home features a 5-bay facade, prominent 4 and a half story tower with a slate mansard-roof and grand entrance pavilion, a decorative front porch and double window dormers, granite block foundation and steps. The home also retains most of its original tall windows,
decoration, roof cresting and spires. Artistically painted in 7 historically-sensitive, complex and lively C2 exterior paint colors—the home is a shining example of a “modern” Victorian Painted Lady in New England. The original house design, semi-circular driveway, restored antique street lamp and solid cast iron decorative railing newel posts greet family members and guests as they did when the house was built in the 1800s.

On the inside, all the original beauty, charm, workmanship still remains in the home. Amazingly, all the 20+ original inset-panel walnut doors, along with all the hardware (decorative steeple hinges, Eastlake doorknobs, etc), carved woodwork, moldings and trim are still in the home and have been lovingly restored. Also 3 highly ornate marble mantels grace the Dining Room, Library Room and Master Bedroom areas. A circular staircase also winds us to the 3rd floor to a domed ceiling and round stained painted glass window. A full back staircase is also easily accessed from the Family Room and goes up to the 2nd and 3rd floor bedrooms and laundry room. Original, refinished wood floors abound throughout the finely detailed and historic home.

The home’s beautifully restored 20+ rooms/areas include:
1st Floor – Entrance Pavilion, Foyer with Circular Staircase, Dining Room, Large Kitchen, Mud Room, Family Room, Library and Bathroom. 2nd Floor – Master Bedroom Suite (bedroom, sitting area, master bathroom, walk in closet), Tower Sitting Room, 2 Bedrooms, Full Bathroom (shared) and Laundry/Storage Room. 3rd Floor – Potential: Media Room/Kids Play Area/Home Office/Master bedroom suite/2 Kids Bedrooms. Full Bathroom and Grand 10’ x 10’ Tower Room (ceiling is 30+ feet high!).

Integral to painstakingly restoring the Italianate home—we have added all the modern conveniences for families of today. All new PVC plumbing, new up to code electrical, zoned A/C and heating have been installed to bring peace of mind and comfort to the new owners. Slate roofs have been cleaned and repaired, also a brand new main roof using architectural shingles (that look like slate) has been proudly put in place. You’ll also be able to enjoy a brand new (never been used), modern “period” Kitchen along with 3 and a half brand new period-style Bathrooms. The new owners will also be able to peacefully rest in front of two gas fireplaces and one electric fireplace on the 1st and 2nd floors of the home.
